Start your own business in Germany
In Germany, there are two programs that provide support for international entrepreneurs who want to start their own business: the Start Up Grant (Gründungszuschuss) and the entry allowance (Einstiegsgeld). The level of funding provided varies depending on the individual circumstances of the entrepreneur. These fundings typically have a duration of up to 18 months, providing entrepreneurs with the time and resources they need to establish their business in Germany. The prerequisite for both programs is that the applicant is currently registered with the Agentur für Arbeit or the Job Center.
Overview
The Start Up Grant („Gründungszuschuss“) is a financial aid from the Arbeitsagentur (employment office), which you can receive to start your own business in Germany. Entrepreneurs who receive unemployment benefits (ALG1) before going self-employed are entitled to apply for the Start Up Grant from the Agentur für Arbeit (“Gründungszuschuss der Agentur für Arbeit”). The Jobcenter offers support for new entrepreneurs through the „Einstiegsgeld“, which is available
to individuals who are receiving unemployment benefits ALG2 (also known as „Bürgergeld“) and who wish
to start their own business.
Both programs are not limited to German speakers. Whether you intend to be a freelancer (Freiberufler) or self-employed (selbstständig) in a trade type of activity (Gewerbe), you can still apply. It is also possible to apply if you are forming a partnership under certain circumstances.
